Ricky-
Consider that this is a college professor! with 200 students this may be a suitable way to communicate! what would you have done

Ricky,

I encourage you to return to the blog "I worry about the Freshmen" and give your opinion. Here is what is great about blogging and commenting: this professor is looking for advice. He wants people to help him understand the gravity of the change in mood on an away message. You are close to this student's age and understand better than a lot of people whether the away message is just for fun or has meaning. You should really go back to that blog and comment. Tell the professor your name (not last), your age or grade, and why you think it is important for him to take some action.

Ricky,

While you may have a valid point about the appropriatness of an instructor IM'ing with an unknown student you may want to reconsider. Can the instructor respond to this student in a way that may be helpful? I am interested in hearing more about what you think of this situation.
